Settings menu is missing on 17.04 #656

Open choman opened 7 years ago

choman commented 7 years ago

On my ubuntu 17.04 system, I was following the directions to relocate the papers folder. They point to a settings menu which doers not exist. And before you ask my menu are configured to be seen on the windows (not the global bar)

Thanks

jflesch commented 7 years ago

1) Are you using Unity or Gnome ? 2) How did you change this setting ?

choman commented 7 years ago

I wasn't able ot relocate the directory because there is no menu. I did see a location field in the paperwork.conf but it appears encoded

I am on unity until 17.10

choman commented 7 years ago

Update: I encoded base64 the new located and put that in the paperwork.conf, now my stuff can live and be shared in dropbox.

Still an issue, but my immediate problem is resolved

jflesch commented 7 years ago

I've tested on a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.04, and it's working. As expected in Unity, the application menu is at the top of the screen.

I assume the menu is not appearing at all on your system ?

choman commented 7 years ago

correct, it is not there

jflesch commented 7 years ago

Can you provide a screenshot please ? I would like to see exactly what's there and what isn't

uggla commented 6 years ago

@jflesch same issue for me on Fedora 26. I have done a fresh install using pip into a virtualenv. Here is a screenshot of the application, as you can see settings icon is missing. screenshot from 2017-09-05 11-36-21

jflesch commented 6 years ago

Which window manager do you use ?

uggla commented 6 years ago

Gnome 3. Sorry, In fact I expected the settings to be in the application's menubar. (confused by doc screenshot) This is available in the Gnome top bar like in the following screenshot. screenshot from 2017-09-05 12-02-58

So this is working in my case. Anyway thanks for your great work !

jflesch commented 6 years ago

The lack of icon is weird however. Did you run paperwork-shell install ? oO

uggla commented 6 years ago

No I didn't. However I have just run it and it doesn't change the gui. But I'm in a virtualenv so maybe it could have an impact by using an improper path ? Following lines show the output of paperwork-shell install

Ah if you're in a virtualenv then nevermind. It's the expected behavior I guess.

choman commented 6 years ago

Here is my screenshot for the original issue, sorry it took a while to post

I am not in a virtual environment and I do not use global menus

choman commented 6 years ago

Oops, didn't mean to close. Sorry

jflesch commented 6 years ago

No problem

jflesch commented 6 years ago

@choman : Can you try uninstalling Paperwork and installing it back but using Flatpak this time please ? It would show us whether it's a dependency problem or not. (Flatpak package includes all dependencies)
