metabase and superset are very powerful. so far my observations after reading a bit and trying out both:
both have simple docker setup
support multiple DBs
open source
Metabase
nicer UI, user friendly (e.g. drill down functionality)
basic chart types available
clojure
open source but also enterprise license
Apache Superset
supports many different charts and also very complex ones
older UI but still ok
complex UI, focus more on data scientists and data people
python and typescript
fully open source, not just one company behind it as with Metabase
=> both are proper solutions, metabase might be easer for end users but you still need knowledge how to deal with data. I would recommend to start with Metabase and see if it is sufficient. SQL queries can be reused anyways and a switch to Superset is not difficult.
