Thanks for taking the trouble to report this in detail. I'm sorry it's been frustrating for you.
Demo Model 1 was published 2 years ago with no adverse feedback, so the installer is working fine for most people. I will take a look (and install it on my new Windoes 10 PC). I may need to ask you for specific details of your system to pinpoint the cause. Hope that will be OK.

Followed instructions carefully. Downloaded thousands of files. Extracted to file folder location as suggested in instructions.
Demo 1 file never found after extraction.
Extracted Files were placed in C:\User\Hal\Program Files\Open Rails\ against my typed instructions.
Tried this procedure twice.
(Wasted considerable time even at DSL.)
Same result.
Opened main program. Faced the Content-tabbed screen window. The Browse button only allowed me to see files in C:\User\Hal\Open Rails\ and no matter what was chosen, the word "Content" was all that appeared in Main Program top selection window, and the START button remained greyed-out.
Selected ALL files Deleted selected files Deleted Open rail icon Verified deletion in Control Panel
A waste of time, gentlemen. Your instruction set leaves much to be desired.
