Huh. I didn't realize we previously lacked a way to resolve annotations. Let's figure this out!
I've created a support ticket with hypothes.is to ask about this
Response from hypothes.is below - I have asked for more information on setting up an Open Publisher Group
Thank you for your response. Since you have the annotations in the public space, only Hypothesis will have the capability to moderate those annotations. While you can flag annotations for moderation, those flagged annotations will be hidden if and only if they violate the Hypothesis Community Guidelines.
Since you would like anyone (logged in Hypothesis users) to be able to annotate your website while having the capability to moderate their annotations, what you would need is an Open Publisher Group. Here's a related article if you would like to read more about the different group types: https://web.hypothes.is/help/annotating-with-groups/.
If you are interested in using a Publisher Group, I have my colleague, Sonja, copied in this email. She will be able to answer relevant questions related to the agreement that needs to be made first before the publisher group gets set up.
So, anyone can still comment, but now we have moderation features? Sounds good to me. Price tag?

Yeah :)
Price tag?
not publicly advertised, expecting them to get back to me with a quote soon
Spoke to hypothes.is last week and their packages start from $3000 per year as an absolute minimum. This seems quite expensive given the volume of traffic to the site.
lol yeah. Can we just review and resolve the comments one by one?

Only the person who originally made a comment can remove it. I can't remove any of them myself. My suggestion would be to remove the plug-in as I don't think it meets our needs.
Hrm, we want to allow people to comment on the text without requiring them to understand or use Github. What are our other options for enabling non-technical user input?
I will do some research into alternatives and get back to you
I haven't found an obvious alternative tool to hypothes.is, there are annotation tools like memex but they're mostly designed for personal use rather than sharing annotations.
We have the forum and a contact email that can be used to provide input from non-technical users. We could highlight these more, by having them in the footer or on a dedicated contact page. They're currently listed under the homepage.
It looks like hypothes.is has mainly been used by committee members to highlight typos, I think we can find an alternative method for proofreading. It might even be that we can still use hypothes.is for this but on a private setting so it doesn't show on the main site.
Sorry, I haven't really followed this, but can't we use Google documents in Suggesting mode if we want comment on a proposal?

This is specifically if someone wants to comment on the HSDS docs - see the yellow highlights
Currently it looks like we're using hypothes.is public settings - which mean anyone can annotate the OR site and only the person who made the comment can delete it.
This means we've got quite a lot of outdated comments highlighting things like typos. There's no reason to keep these in once the issue they're highlighting has been resolved.
Implementing a hypothes.is publisher group would allow us to moderate comments. https://web.hypothes.is/blog/publisher-groups/
