Looks great, but in the absence of any kind of proper dependency management for Stata I think it would be useful to have at least a text file somewhere saying "this is where these files were fetched from"

Do you know the answer to that for the pre-existing ones?

No! Very good question. safetab is by Krishnan I think, and I wonder if datacheck may be too. I don't want to derail this PR into a detective story though so happy to just merge as is and we can track down later.
