User requirements

This is an update to previous codelist for osteoarthritis. This codelist will be used in a study looking at patients on waiting lists for orthopaedic surgery and their opioid usage. We will use this codelist to observe opioid usage in a more homogenous subgroup.

@alschaffer As an update to the existing CTV3 codelist, this is fine. However.... my concern is regarding the use of the CTV3 codes and whether they would still be up to date, in general? If we were making a codelist for a disease now, then we would use SNOMED.

alschaffer commented 3 months ago

@speed-vm Then perhaps we should do that, to be on the safe side? Especially given it is a key variable.

A lot of the codelists used for various comorbidities are also quite old (e.g. cardiac, diabetes, etc.), and could use updating (or conversion to SNOMED?). Although, those are less important than osteoarthritis and probably not worth going to that level of effort at the moment.

I am assuming this will form part of the data curation/variables library work?

Discussion between Chris Wood, @alschaffer and @speed-vm . The impact of CTV3 vs SNOMED is unclear. We will use an inclusive SNOMED CT codelist to see if return is different.

Please can I have a second check on this codelist? https://www.opencodelists.org/codelist/user/speed-vm/osteoarthritis-snomed-ct/2beaec27/

Very briefly, CTV3 is the "native" terminology in TPP. Until about June 2020 that is all we had access to.

Once we got access to SNOMED we started to use SNOMED CT as the default for building new codelists.

@speed-vm It looks ok to me, happy to approve.
