User requirements

A codelist is needed that will include codes that a patient is prescribed a medication in general practice where care is shared with a specialist. This is to investigate changes in use of these codes over time. Codelist may later be combined with a codelist of common shared care drugs.

Sensitivity versus specificity

I want to identify any codes where there is a high likelihood it indicates shared care of a medication.

• Codes likely to related to shared care of health condition not specific to prescribing e.g. conditions which don't tend to have shared care drugs e.g. antenatal shared care.
• Codes likely to related to shared care with non-specialist - e.g. hospice, health visitor, district or practice nurses
• Codes indicated shared care rejected

Borderline cases

• Shared care - consultant and general practitioner (268529002) - included as could indicate specialist/GP shared care of drugs
• Shared care by other agency and general practitioner (557581000000108) - included as could indicate specialist (e.g. ADHD service)/GP shared care of drugs
