Server help #13

Open ttglennhall opened 8 years ago

There was talk of setting up an Amazon web service account to host our website. Is someone willing to set-up the server?

Also how much storage and database instance usage do you think we will need for 1 year?

Hi @ttglennhall - we are in the process of getting AWS credits. Should be ready by next week at the latest. I just submitted a list of current and estimated requirements for app hosting and I included the following:

  • 2 or 3 on demand T2 micro/small instances for deploying apps currently developed by volunteers (OpenDSD, Playground Locator, Sweepaware).

If you think we may need more than that, please let me know. Do you think you will want to use RDS for hosting (spatial) data? @jj0hns0n and I are also setting up a separate Geonode instance to host all SanGIS data, and it may be possible that we could include Sweepaware routes in there as well.

I'm sure for the first year that will be plenty. I think we were also wanting to use their SNS push notification services, is this automatically included or do we need to specifically ask for it?

It would be great to have all the San Diego GIS information in one place. I'm leaning on you and @jj0hns0n to tell me what makes the most sense for our GIS stuff but I would think having one database you work with would be preferred.
