I think it greatly depends. In FAA land, "with you" is unnecessary but unoffensive-- whereas if they checked on with "1.5 miles inbound EBBIX" I would instantly be annoyed because it's a lot of unnecessary information. But some places want that reported. Others even want pilots to report their aircraft type on checkon (which I find so bizarre).
We could definitely change it to remove the "with you". The widest convention (and what FAA uses) is expecting callsign, current altitude, and if different the assigned altitude.
Miami Approach, AAL1637, 11000
Miami Approach, AAL1637, 1800 climbing 5000
I would shy away from changing it just because itโs insanely common, proper or not.

๐ Ah yes, British phraseology. When checking in with an APP controller, you should report aircraft type, ATIS information, current and cleared levels (+ inbound fix).
"Heathrow Director, BigJet413, B748, information C, descending through FL120 for FL80, inbound LAM"

When people call me with that ๐ฉ on vatsim, I just want to say "I already know your type, where you are, AND where you're going because of these amazing things called radar and flight plans, all I need is your current altitude and what you're descending to."
But alas, I don't want to be mean, so I just mumble it to myself while they're still taking the 45 seconds it takes to say all that extra fluff, and then respond politely plus a "good afternoon" ๐
@erikquinn Thanks for clarifying. Awesome answer ๐คฃ
What you said makes a lot of sense. IMHO "with you" should be replaced with "

My understanding is that in IVAO, it is considered bad practice to call ATC with "DAL123 with you at flight level 330". Instead, one is supposed to say something like "DAL123 1.5 miles inbound BEBIX at flight level 330" and avoid "with you" because it does not provide any meaningful information.
@erikquinn Can you provide some insights? Is it okay to use "with you"? Is it bad practice?
