This feature is a step towards egress zero deployment mode. Many financial customers want egress zero a.k.a. disconnected internet install to comply with the strict regulatory requirements their industry demands. This drives the requirement of pulling all OSD images (platform + layered products/services) from a registry local to the Google Cloud private network, instead of quay.io. Google Container Registry (GCR) will be made available in every Google Cloud region where OSD gets deployed.
