Port isn't a top level variable #278

$::port didn't work in my environment, it will report successful on existing installs but actually be failing.

Oh, there's already another pull request #275 about the same thing. Wish I saw that earlier. Could either one please get merged asap as I got stung by this for quite some time wondering why my tests were failing.
