Note that there is annoying problem of
genus
taxon
etcshould we prevent somehow against this?
There's always the problem of people misusing tags, but maybe the label could say "species name in latin" and/or put a placeholder (is this the correct name?) with a species in Latin as an example in the field space.
but maybe the label could say "species name in latin"
I like the idea of using the label to make this more explicit. Also with the other tags genus, taxon. Would be great to see a PR/Draft of this, so we can see what this would look like.
Can we specify the placeholder text from this repo? If so…: How about we give an example with real latin names that show the system of genus <> taxon <> species. The term to have common parts, don't they? This could help to signal to users how to use the fields.
Looking at the numbers https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/natural=tree#combinations, species and genus should be both be part of the presets. I would still consider them part of the moreFields
, though.
I think the placeholder could indeed help to dissipate doubts of what should be introduced in that field.
Given the importance and usefulness of species
, I would argue that it should be a visible field in the natural=tree
preset. genus
and taxon
could be added to moreFields, so that mappers could access those tags more easily.
