Beach: ask swimming #977

When choosing a beach, swimming=yes/no... should be one of the secondary items asked about.

some additional info:

I would say it's probably best to wait a bit until this is documented a bit better and/or gets used a little bit more before we add this as a field?!

It is usually mapped as seperate leisure=swimming_area area over water (~4k), also for piers and other non-beaches, default can otherwise be assumed "no" and the best access point for a water is usually the more accessible part. If there is a name it usually belongs to the beach/harbour/resort/... (one feature, one OSM element) but it is up to the local community.

Combinations with beaches ~80 swimming ~150 leisure=swimming_area ~1.8k sport=swimming its mapping is/was maybe not understood/documented/applying well for everyone. You could look for and ask about it on the forum or tagging mailing list.

Indeed there is https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Swimming_and_bathing ... . Hmmm, maybe iD could offer "related items" right on its interface without needing to click Info...

Ah, I forgot to check this page. I didn't know it included 'tag beaches with a sport tag'. This explains the many results. This approach seems to be more populair than mapping it as 'bathing place' or 'swimming ok'. There seems to be no consensus on it however.
