Dear Auriel,
unfortunately your concerns are very eligible. Albeit theoretically having no limits in handling thousands of thinclients, there is no real infrastructure to do so in practice. There is no load handing as such. As of now potential points of failures would be the integrity of the openthinclient server per se (no handover to a backup server implemented) and the limits of pxe scalability (dhcp leases can be problematic).
Thus your offer to talk about collaborations would be very interesting! If you may elaborate on it a bit?
Greetings, Steffen
I'm currently working on the business plan section for software/hardware specifications for the Municipal Information Systems of a non-profit experimental, intentional community to be located in the North Sonoran Desert of Arizona (USA).
Currently code named: Project Ancient West, we have a projected inception count of 2,500 units with a peak built environmental capacity of double that. Within this community Internet access, processing power, applications (SaaS) including VoIP which are considered a public service the same as a public roadway. All systems and applications must be F/LOSS compliant.
My questions are as follows:
I haven't found anything in your English documentation about a connection broker so I'm concerned that the system isn't scalable for a community of our size. I've had the opportunity to examine an installation of your OS at one of Southwest Network's Clinic here in Mesa, AZ. They performed well and were very configurable but I never saw more than 10 or 12 workstations.
