Another very useful brush set. Thanks!

Added: And I should have said... these work really well with the Pump tool.

artisteacher commented 7 years ago

Thank you! It's really great to have more textural options.

ghost commented 7 years ago

I'm going to see about adding these into the default build.

ghost commented 7 years ago

These are good, but the first set doesn't seem to have anti-aliasing - it creates hard edged lines. Any idea what's causing that? The second set doesn't do that.

RodneyBaker commented 6 years ago

I confirm that these brushes still work well with current v1.2.1 release I have not tested all so have not ran into the antialiasing problem yet mentioned by @turtletooth

Masonimous commented 5 years ago

This is a GREAT brush set! I have a problem with changing the colors other than black.

RodneyBaker commented 5 years ago

Recommend reviewing this as a recommendation to add these vector brushes to OpenToonz distribution. In not deemed appropriate for any reason (licensing or otherwise) recommend closing this issue and promoting the brushes in the OpenToonz Forum.

Of interest, @turtletooth mentioned in response that one set doesn't seem to have anti-aliasing but rather has hard edged lines. As several users have suggested they desire hard edged lines and not the current antialiasing perhaps this difference should be reviewed to determine what might be gained in understanding the difference between the sets and how they do or do not produce antialiasing.

RodneyBaker commented 5 years ago

Is there interest in adding these or other brushes to the official OpenToonz release? Should we pursue a method to distribute additional resources via a separate download? Currently this contribution is open as an 'Issue' so addressing these and other related questions will help us chart the way forward.

I do note that the size of the PLI fles (brushes) is quite small. In one of these sets the filesize ranges from 1kb to 169kb. So size is not a primary obstacle to inclusion.

A question: What is the best way to incorporate/distribute vector brushes for OpenToonz?

RodneyBaker commented 5 years ago

Closing this PR pending discussion on what the community wishes to do with contributed resources that aren't added into the build.

Is there a plan to include these in the official release?

RodneyBaker commented 4 years ago

Reopening as an example of resources available to the community heading into the v1.4 release.

RodneyBaker commented 4 years ago

As part of the ramp up to v1.4 perhaps we can look at replacing the Toonz Harlequin brush with one related to Opentoonz:

REF:
https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/blob/master/stuff/library/vector%20brushes/logo.pli

Here's a possible replacement vector brush for the toonz harlequin brush. I've named it otlogo.pli to maintain strict compatibility with older installations. Something like this should likely just be named logo.pli and replace the previous file.

Link to otlogo.pli file

Examples drawn with the brush: logo_brush

RodneyBaker commented 4 years ago

Assuming interest, there is still time to add this and/or similar brush packs to the v1.4 release.

While this report specifically focuses on vector brushes there are a number of other brushes (to include mypaint) that could be included.

artisteacher commented 4 years ago

I'm all for more brushes being added. As they are added, especially In the case of the my paint brushes, we really need a better organization system or way to prioritize brushes before adding more. Sure you can create a folder, name it strategically to display first, and move your favorite brushes in there. However that's not really a user friendly option.

RodneyBaker commented 4 years ago

I'm not sure we'll see a revamped management/organization system for brushes until after v1.4 although that would be ideal.

This would certainly be a good place to talk about such a management system.

One thing I like about the brushes (in general) is that they don't consume much space. As such adding new brushes doesn't leave a huge footprint although... if I understand correctly... it does slow down Opentoonz launching as OT indexes them into memory. That might be something to look at as well; can brushes be made to load after Opentoon is already running. I'm confident they can. I also may be reading the initial load/launch of resources incorrectly... it's something I've been meaning to investigate.

Update: Tahoma2D has working example of brush management which will be useful for either porting or research and development. REF: https://github.com/tahoma2d/tahoma2d/pull/789

artisteacher commented 4 years ago

We're close to being able to do some very basic mypaint brush organization directly in the browser. We can make a new brush folder in the my paint folder. We can drag the brush icons to that folder. However the brushes themselves have to be moved outside of OT and OT has to restart to recognize the changes.

For phase 1 of setting up customizable organization, I would make the .myb files visible and moveable in the library folder of the browser. I would also add some sort of refresh button to the style editor to reload the brushes without needing to restart. Hopefully this would be achievable without much work.

Phase 2 could vary, depending on what everyone prefers. Features that could be helpful:

Closing but let's remember to revisit for possible inclusion in v1.5

Hello, I think the google drive link has had it's permissions changed, I cannot access it, it keeps telling me to ask for access permission. @Agnyy

RodneyBaker commented 2 years ago

@Awesomeplayer The link appears to work for me so perhaps it is something besides access permissions?

Browsers tend to hold the downloads waiting for acknowledgement from the user so make sure to watch for that in your browser. It did that for me and I had to give the download permission to continue.

RodneyBaker commented 2 years ago

Reopening this as we should at least consider how we might add some or all of this to the upcoming v1.6 release.

If not added to the next release, and even if added... we as a community should investigate how we might better manages community resources to make sure everyone knows they exist and to keep them readily available.

Jackon78 commented 2 years ago

Hey, would you by any chance see if you can reupload the brushes? @RodneyBaker The link prompts for permission access for me and I was wondering if you're able to reupload them here for the time being if that's okay with you.

It wasn't the browser, it was a google page the tells me to ask for the uploader's permission to access the files by emailing them. This could be an issue of drive file permissions changing due to an update to how google drive permissions work in recent years. To check, simply right-click the drive folder, click "Copy Link", and see if the new pop up window says "Restricted" or anything else instead of "Anyone with the Link". If it's the former then set it to "Anyone with the Link", but if it's the latter, it's probably something else, in which case I guess reuploading would be the way to go. Thanks for reading!

How are you getting the textures into the vector brushes likes? I would love to make some brush for OT. Can you explain your approach?

Thanks man! You're the best!

RodneyBaker commented 2 years ago

In anticipation of adding additional brushes (both vector and raster) to Opentoonz for v1.7 let's be sure to lock down licensing notices for any community resources.

@Agnyy I note there is no file indicating licensing accompanying these brushes. Lack of clear licensing will automatically keep these brushes from being added to an Opentoonz release.

i can download it because you didn't gave access to download this and we're just waiting for you to provide access so we can download it.. directly...
