Adopt-a-trail programs are a common feature of park systems across the United States. Often, these trail adoptions are managed by "Friends of the Parks" groups and conservancies. Documenting and tracking maintenance of trails in a transparent and accessible way could be a real improvement to that ongoing work.
While Adopt-a hasn't had great success to date, I think that deploying it into an environment and community where the adopt-a norms and mechanics are already in place is a ripe opportunity. Perhaps useful new features may emerge with a solid user base.
