Cochrane missing: structured data about drugs? #16

Open roll opened 9 years ago

roll commented 9 years ago

Background Related to #21 issue.

Topic It looks like the Cochrane database has not structured data about Drug only has non structured about interventions in general.

Model Drug entity

pwalsh commented 9 years ago

An intervention is in fact a drug, no?

roll commented 9 years ago

@pwalsh No. Intervention can be for example 5, 10, 20mg or Social activity therapy etc. But for many trials - yes, it's correct (drug as a free text like Sarcosine + Clozapine). May be we have to parse it on the next stage and clean by hands.

So, we'll need @danfowler to decide what we do here.

danfowler commented 9 years ago

@pwalsh @roll it might be quite messy to parse the 8000 different interventions which are a mix of drugs, therapy modes, and dosages. There's also some amount of typos that I found in a quick glance at the data. So maybe leave as free text? screen shot 2015-09-14 at 13 18 45

May be we have to wait other datasets (also it makes sense for other database improvements tasks)? If we will be having a list of drugs we can link it automatically.

Anyway it looks like we have to have interventions as a free text.
