Project Title Consideration: OpenUlmus vs. ULMUS:LP #30

Recommendation

As an alteranative, I would like to recommend ULMS:LP instead of OpenUlmus (LP = Learning Platform)

If Ulmus is going to be a platform which may eventually offer paid PaaS services (and support...?), does it make sense to include 'Open' in the name?

Observation

As we start knocking out the items on our OpenUlmus Beta Release, the actual branding of the phrase 'OpenUlmus' keeps coming back to my head in a less than positive connotation.

I believe a more brandable name may create more opportunities for current Sponsorship and greater opportunities in the future for sustainability.

Reasoning

Brand Recognition

For those familiar with the ELMS:LN SaaS project, OpenUlmus seems to only vaguely have a relation, which could detract from possible Sponsorship.

Long-Term Sustainability

Based on what I've learned since starting to organization some of the Proj Mgmt documentation, the end-of-the-line goal is for the 'Ulmus' system to be a self-funded and sustainable PaaS system (possibly even with paid Support via Mentor/Mentee pairs who would be paid via OpenCollective...?).

Naming Connotations

The 'Open' in the name 'OpenUlmus' gives the connotation of providing an OpenSource project which is re-usable (like Node.js, Drupal, WordPress, Python, etc.). However, ELMS:LN is the OpenSource project. Instead, it seems like Ulmus should be a managed platform where an instance of the project exists.

For comparison, WordPress has WordPress.org (for the OS and 'Community' version of the software) and WordPress.com for the Paid/Enterprise version of the software. Ulmus' model is a little difference, due to the goal/aim of keeping everything transparent and open, but the ideals are the same.

hmm... Generally +1 a possible resolution: ULMUS:LP (not in love w/ LP btw but it makes sense) - is the thing that can help power and monetize a community openulmus - an open deployment, white-labeled much like the other ones but who's sole focus is on being completely open

I've never been bothered with sites/brands with the name 'open' (which you probably are aware since most of our platforms or partners are 'opensomething'). Most of which either are a for-profit biz (i.e. Open Collective) and/or have some sort of service model to help sustain their OSS software - think

Also... assuming we'll be releasing openulmus as a stand-alone product/drupal distro... if we don't run our own SaaS offering.. somebody else will.

Ulmus was something I really didn't get, but when you check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elm it totally makes sense!

After rambling here and thinking about it... I feel really good about moving forward with the name and vision intact!
