replace a cpu node

CPU node replacement:

In this example we have a cluster of 1 ovs node & 2 cpu nodes with active vpools running on them:

10.100.199.151 - ovs-node01

10.100.199.152 - cpu-node01
10.100.199.153 - cpu-node02

Suddenly 10.100.199.152 - cpu-node01 goes down due:

• to a hardware failure
• reforming existing architecture

Important to know: the node has to be shutdown.

PART 1: Move virtual machines to new CPU node

• Move the virtual machines who lived on 10.100.199.152 - cpu-node01 to 10.100.199.153 - cpu-node02
• Start them properly

  PART 2: Remove CPU node

• Remove/replace or repair the cpu node

  PART 3: Re-adding a CPU node

• Start the cpu node
• Install required packages on the nodes:
  • ntp
  • qemu
  • libvirt-bin
  • blktap-openvstorage-utils

    PART 4: Live migrate the virtual machines

• Move the failed virtual machines back to the new CPU node
