Help: Supported chem_opt in WRF-SFIRE coupled with chemistry (W4.4-S0.1) #96

Version Information

Detailed Description

I have been using WRF-SFIRE coupled with chemistry. However, I noticed that the currently supported chemical options, MOZART-GOCART and RADM2-MADE/SORGAM, either oversimplify or omit some processes critical to my research. Thus, I want to inquire whether the developer team has expanded the chemical options in WRF-SFIRE-Chem to include additional chem_opt in WRF-Chem, such as RACM-ESRL-MADE/SORGAM/VBS (3 modes) or CBMZ-MOSAIC (4 bins). Or are there any plans for such expansion in chem_opt?

Thank you for your time!

Yangfan,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding chemical options in WRF-SFIRE. At this time, we have not expanded the chemical options available in the model. That said, some other chemical schemes may be supported, provided the user generates the appropriate namelist.fire_emissions file.

However, the specific schemes you are referring to would require a significant code overhaul to handle aerosols effectively. This would involve incorporating emission factors specific to the aerosol bins used in the MOSAIC or SPRGAM aerosol schemes.

If you are able to conceptually address the challenge of deriving these emission factors, we would be happy to advise you on how to implement the necessary changes in the code.

Thanks, Adam Kochanski
