This has been in development for a while and it's high time for a merge to master...
Note @lungd there are a few big changes here, particularly using electricalConnectionInstanceW and continuousConnectionInstanceW in the generated nml to reduce the number of mod files generated. It will require an update of jNeuroML to the latest version.
