Export list of recipes and contents #1

Closed Popolechien closed 3 years ago

We are starting to have quite a few recipes, it would be extremely useful to be able to export some sort of CSV list of all available contents across languages, e.g. something that can be shared with potential partners with the fields language, title, and description

@Popolechien This ticket proposes a solution, but I don't understand the problem it should fix. The Zimfarm is open, any partner can already look to what it contains. Therefore I have to ask: What is the problem you want to fix?

Popolechien commented 3 years ago

Orange (to name but one) has asked a list of French and English contents that they can circulate to their markets as paper format (which means that I've had to produce that list "by hand" until now). It is also useful when approaching potential distributors to show what we have in whatever languages are of interest to them.

The problem it fixes is that the "lists" currently available on the cardshop (or even library.kiwix.org) are hardly usable, with languages being mixed and / or triplicates no being clearly flagged as such.

@Popolechien Thank you for the clarification. What is sure, is that the Zimfarm is not the catalog. I will think more about the need...

This looks like a library issue, not a zimfarm issue. Although I agree we currently have a flexible zimfarm tool while we only have the XML file for the library…

Popolechien commented 3 years ago

basing a catalog on zimfarm would add a nice touch of how often any given content is being updated, but honestly at this stage I'd take anything that can be quickly imported into an excel sheet.

@Popolechien I plan to create a “CMS” repository and move this ticket there. Would a Xml2xls tool not be able to do the job? Excel might be even having one per default?!

Popolechien commented 3 years ago

Sounds good enough to me.

https://www.convertcsv.com/xml-to-csv.htm semble faire le job. J'ai testé avec https://download.kiwix.org/library/library_zim.xml et le résultatn est convaincant.
