dattaz commented 6 years ago

Currently we only have interface in french and english. Book are in more than 50 languages ! (see list in https://github.com/openzim/gutenberg/issues/55#issue-334389772)

Help us to provide more translation ! File with strings to translate in json is here https://github.com/openzim/gutenberg/blob/master/gutenbergtozim/l10n.py and you should add you locale here : https://github.com/openzim/gutenberg/blob/master/gutenbergtozim/export.py#L40

Thanks !

We should use Translatewiki

kelson42 commented 1 year ago

@rgaudin I have open the ticket to organize the sync with Translatewiki https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T331816. But I have remarked that all the strings are stored in one file, this will be fore sure a problem. Can you split the stuff to have one file per language like we have in other Python projects where we deal with TW please?

In your ticket, I see Prefix: mwoffliner-. Is that a typo?

AFAIK, we have no other python project using TW.

Looks like TW supports gettext so that's probably what we're gonna use. We also have strings in JS code. We'd need to assess tools. https://guillaumepotier.github.io/gettext.js/ would help a single format ; especially with https://github.com/Wisembly/xgettext-php

Should we pause that request until our repo is ready?

@rgaudin I wonder how much effort would be needed to implement this? There is a kind of momentum right now regarding localisation and I would really like to have at least one Python scraper doing this right. The other ones then shoykd be easier.

@benoit74 Would you be able to implement this small task? Actually people of Translatewiki where waiting from our feedback at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T331816

benoit74 commented 9 months ago

I will clearly benefit from your help to onboard me on Translatewiki, I have no experience on it (and no user account ^^). And for me it is not really a small task (still smaller than a full project, I agree), we need to define tooling on this + document the process so that it becomes a reference for all other scrapers / projects. Please ping me when you have some time to discuss this live, or inform me that I have to progress on my own.
