Firefox + flash + youtube does not seem to care about gnome-screensaver or X screen saver (blanking and such).
Our gnome-screensaver has been configured to not activate under any circumstances, but the standard X screen saver setting is screen blanking at 10 minutes. This problem could (maybe?) be solved by turning the X screen blanking off (xset 0 0).
Actually something (probably gnome-screensaver) does set the X blanking time to 0. Thus I am surprised if the problem actually exists. Well, users can tune their own screensaver configurations.
I am going to try to reproduce this with default settings (so far, no luck).
I have played a particular youtube-video fullscren over 50 minutes, and screensaver does not kick in. More information is needed on how to reproduce this. Or have the users changed their screensaver settings (or perhaps there are some old leftover settings)?
There seems to be a problem with gnome-scren saver activating itself when user is watching video on the desktop. This is propably a player software specific problem. For example viewing youtube with webbrowser or DVDs with Kaffeine/VLC?
