Nostalgy++ stops working after clicking any message link; Thunderbird restart required to re-enable #123

Nostalgy++ 3.0.4 in Thunderbird 78.12.0 on macOS 11 stops working as soon as you click a link in any email message. Disabling and re-enabling the add-on does not fix the problem; the only solution is to restart Thunderbird.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click a link in an email

Result: Nostalgy++ shortcut keys stop working and the Thunderbird shortcuts become active again (e.g. "S" no longer activates the Nostalgy++ feature to save a message to a folder, and instead toggles the message star).

Workaround: restart Thunderbird every time you click a link in a message.

not on win 10 TB 91.0b5.

does the link open an external browser or inside TB? Here on win, it opens an external browser.

I did reselect the message in the list but also works without doing that.

I didn't test in the old version, but this works in the bew version 3.0.7 : https://github.com/opto/nostalgy-xpi/releases/tag/3.0.7.

Does this help in your configuration?

opto commented 2 years ago

works on 3.0.8 in win 10.

In case of problem: close and open TB, try this, copy error console, which might give hints

TB 78.14.0 (64 bit) Windows 10 nostalgy++ 3.0.4

I've facing an intermittent issue of Nostalgy++ not working. Nostalgy++ addon off/on did the trick for me before I realized the issue. And I finally realized that the issue is when I use TB + nostalgy++ + multiple tabs As I use multiple tabs, I sometimes end up in the situation where I have 2 tabs with my Incoming folder. At that point in time, when I want to move an email in one of my Incoming folder tabs, the ability to look up the directory doesn't work. The trick is

@bclaise interisting. I have three mail:3pane tabs for three email accounts, each with an inbox. Nostalgy++ works in all. in Win 10 and Win 11. Are you doing the same?

bclaise commented 2 years ago

@opto the issue is multiple Incoming folders for the same account. Just tried now with TB 91.5.0. Still the same issue

opto commented 2 years ago

what is this: multiple Incoming folders for the same account? I never used that. How do I set that/test it?

bclaise commented 2 years ago

Multiple tabs for "Incoming" for the same account.

opto commented 2 years ago

I think it wouldn't be able to distinguishthe (identical) tabs and so opens the folderlist in the wrong tab.

the original question (links in emails) are working here innewest version, so I am closing this.
