Move to folder - location changes randomly #182

I've only just seen this recently, because I was relying on this working and was clicking shift-s without checking the location. I now find that I have emails filed all over the place. I have my rules applied in one folder only (Inbox). I can't trust it to work at all now unfortunately.

I am using Nostalgy++ 3.4.2 on Thunderbird 91.10.0 on Windows 10

For emails that should have gone to a specific folder, I now find that they were actually moved to various other random locations, including my Sent folder.

The original problem is this - I look at one email, and it has either matched a rule or I manually set the location. I check it's the correct folder and I move that first email. I then have several further emails on the same topic that should go the same place. I press shift-S for those. Let's say I had 10 emails to file, after 2, 3 or 4 emails it changes the location to another random folder.

I looked at a bunch of emails in the Sent folder that were filed incorrectly there. These are now matching the rules (incorrectly) to other random folders. But the location is consistent per email.

If I file them again to the correct folder, that selected folder stays correct for a while. But it changes again when I click on another email.

I too am having problems with emails getting sent to unintended places. Often I click on an email and it instantly gets moved to the last folder I filed to, without any keypress?? I spend a lot of time ctrl-Z'ing out of this situation, and I still keep finding misfiled emails. I love Nostalgy and cannot live without it, but this is tough. Edit: I think I might be mouse gesturing unintentionally. I turned this off. Maybe it should default off? it seems awfully easy to trigger by accident.

I solved my issue by going into Preferences, under Completion, and unchecking "Suggest folder of related conversation".

In general I only run the rules on a specific folder. But when I was trying to sort my mail within other folders, it was just guessing which folder to move to, and not retaining the one I selected. Anyway, unchecking the suggestions solves this for me.
