Enhancement: Chromecast to respond to Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC samsung branded) Deck Control Settings #542

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Requesting that Deck Control buttons (play, pause, stop, rewind, forward) work
with Anynet+(A brand of HDMI-CEC from Samsung). My Samsung TV recognizes it as
an Anynet+ device but does not make play/pause work. Chromecast is only generic
HDMI-CEC and not properly an Anynet+ device to enable Deck Controls.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Chromecast Firmware Version: 27946, casting from Youtube.com on Windows 7 Home Premium: Latest Stable Chrome

The same with my Samsung TV LE32C530 (model of 2010), recognised as Anynet+
device, but control Buttons (Play, pause) don't work.

Same issue with my Samsung model LN46A550P3F. The TV is a bit older but has
always worked fine with the Chromecast turning the TV on and changing the
source. My TV does recognised the Chromecast as Anynet+ device in the source
list.

Forgot to mention that I have tried this casting from many different devices :
chromebook, Nexus 5, Nexus 10, Moto X, iPhone 5s and iPhone 4 with many
different apps. My Chromecast is running the latest 27946 firmware.

Please submit a feedback report after casting and pressing the remote's
buttons.
https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3187017?hl=en
Make sure to prefix the report with the issue number, e.g. "Issue 542 HDMI CEC".

What more Feedback do you need exactly? You can easily test it with a Samsung
TV model of the years (about) 2009/2010/2011, that have anynet+. Thanks.

rochus.s: I think that more feedback is required to analyse which HDMI-CEC
signals are emitted when pushing buttons on your remote control.

If you want that Google fixes this issue, try to help with Chromecast app
feedback feature. If you don't want or can't do it: wait. It will be better
than saying: "it don't work, fix it."

rochus, please try it and then send feedback through the chromecast app
prefixed with Issue 542 HDMI CEC

anjul...: I don't think the samsung tv even sends a signal when you press
pause/play.

andrewtr: I didnt know anynet/hdmi cec last week, so I can be wrong. I
understand that one functionality of HDMI CEC allows TV to send some pressed
keys on devices. In a forum, I read that allowed sent keys depends on device
identification (playback device, tuner device and maybe others...).

Is Chromecast source code public? Even if I think HDMI-CEC driver part is
implemented in C/C++ through JNI, so not in public part of source code.

Original comment by anjul...@gmail.com on 28 Mar 2015 at 11:45

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
anjul: I agree with device identification, chromecast doesn't register itself
as a device that allows play/pausing

I can confirm the issue affects a Samsung LA46C650 tv. I've sent in a
ChromeCast feedback report after pressing the buttons.

Happy to test new code/fixes or provide more info/feedback if required.

priyanku: Yes, should be no problem with chromecast, only the TV remote
(pause/play) isn't yet functioning with this model.

These seems to be a problem only for Samsung Tv, somebody tried with a
different brand remote ?

claudiu: Issue 535
(https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=535) neither LG
(https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=534) There should
be an option in the chromecast app to set hdmi-cec mode to have compatibility
with different hdmi-cec standards

not. Sent feedback via the Chromecast app after pressing the remote buttons.
