Wayland may be the future, but it isn't the present, things are buggy and need a lot of work before they are ready for daily use.

I've been using bspwm for the best part of ten years now I think and while I've tried moving to Wayland ready DEs, I too found they were missing support.

The deal-breaker for me and Wayland was barrier, as I use it to move between my desktop and laptop.

Other tiling WMs didn't much appeal to me. bspwm is minimalist and extensible with the right shell scripting, although external rules can be tricky to implement sometimes.
