Trying to remove a lof of redundant and confusing code in here

Maybe this is already in a mergable state? Refactoring of weights is already done, extra work can be done on a new branch.

Just left a few comments. The model for the general kick is still broken I believe, but perhaps it is better to merge and fix that one in a different PR
