Try upgrading to a never cios rev, I had the same problem though I went from
rev8 so can't be sure. Worth a try though

This is because fat32 and ntfs require 249 rev17 or higher. Please read up on
the forum or wiki before posting bugs thx.

Using IOS249 rev20 solved the problem, thanks!
I searched the FAQ, as well as tried to contact someone via IRC... there was no
mention if this issue. I googled as well. Had I known about the forums (or
google found anything there) I certainly would have tried that.
If there is a relevant thread I missed in the forum, would someone include it
here (for anyone else who stumbles across this issue).
Thanks!

I agree this should probably be added in the wiki, tried logging in with my
google account but seems it's not open for editing to the puplic.

Hi. First of all, thank you for your great work.
I experience a similar problem since yesterday. I updated to rev181 of WiiFlow
and now every time i try to start a game i would get the Message: Disc_SetUSB
failed
Regardless of the game i want to start or which IOS i use. I tried the IOS249
(cIOS rev20 Base57) and IOS222 (Hermes IOS 5.1) Versions of WiiFlow, didn't try
223 or other Versions.
Until rev117 everything worked fine, well except the update Feature which
wouldn't work at all.
I know that everything after rev92 is a Beta release but i just wanted to tell
you, so you have the chance to fix the problem for further releases.
Here are my System Stats:
Wii FW 4.2E
priiloader 5.0
IOS 249 (rev20 Base57)
IOS 222 (v5.1 Base 38)
1.5 TB WD Essential (500 GB FAT32 primary | 1000 GB NTFS extended) both not set
active.
And just to mention it again. It WORKED before with same configuration.

Oh, btw... ...just went back to rev92a.
Updated to rev166 which seems to be the lowest revision available on the update
Server. After the download Wifflow crashed, like always when it tries to reset
after updating - so nothing new, the update worked.
But Same issue as on rev181: Disc_SetUSB failed
I noticed that since rev166 NTFS is fully supported. Can it have to do with
this feature?
Oh, and another thing. After new installation of Wiiflow it would always tell
me that it hasn't found any games. But if i try to select a Partition Wiiflow
would only let me switch between FAT and WBFS. I can't choose NTFS where my
games are on. Always have to edit the wiiflow.ini manually.

Thats your problem right there. 1. Both MUST be active. 2. Both MUST be
primary.

I was already guessing that.... my mistake that i didn't do it right from the
start ...but it's too much effort to change that now, because an extended
partition can neither be changed to a primary partition nor can it be made
active without loosing the data it contains. So that's no option.
But as i mentioned - it DID WORK before and it does still if i use rev92. And
it still works with Configurable USBLoader too.
But i would prefer using WiiFlow, because it works for all my games and to be
true - it looks much better ;-)

I recently changed my setup to 1 fat32 part. and 1 NTFS part and had the same
problem.
Also with R181.
Tried to make both active, but windows wont let me make both active. And a
partition manager wont either.
Does somebody know how to force that?

As far as i know, it would suffice if you'd set only the NTFS partition active.
Ofcourse i never tried it myself ;-)

partition master or gparted.

i already tried it with easeus partition master (6.1.1). Setting the partitions
to primary is no problem but it will only let me set 1 active partition on a
drive.

Ok.... ...after 5 days of moving data across all the drives installed in my
small homenet, repartitioning the hdd i use with my wii, formatting it and
moving all data back to the hdd..... ....no effect at all.
I now have two primary partitions as recommended. The first one is FAT32 500
GB, the second one NTFS 1000 GB set active. Well, wiiflow doesn't seem to care
about which partition is set active and i was only able to set one partition
active at a time, no matter which program i was using. So i tried both.
No Version of wiiflow from rev166 and above would work.

This issue has nothing to do with how you partitioned your drive. We indeed
have an issue with this error, but it's not related to the issue the OP had. If
you get this issue again, please create a new issue, with what you did to get
this problem.
Again, we know it's an issue, and we also know it MIGHT be ciosx rev20 related.
We're just not sure.
About the partitions and stuff: you can only have one partition set to active.
It's the partition which the bios will use to boot the os from. It would be a
bit strange to have multiple partitions setup as active, in order to make it
difficult your bios :P

Hihi.... ..I was wondering....
Just mentioned that because someone in this thread said something about 4
partitions and all set active.
Ok. So i know i am not the only one to experience this problem.
But just so you know.... ...i am using the IOS222 build of Wiiflow not cIOSX
rev20 (it is installed though on IOS249) and usually i start games with the
same IOS.
Just thought i could post in this thread because the issue seemed to be
similiar to mine and i didn't want to create a new issue.

I am using R206 and I switched to ios 222 and this error went away. But I realy
wanted to say that there is a bug that is driving me crazy. And that is pressing
the B button on the main screen should not do anything till another button is
pressed. But when I press B it moves the list to the right. this bug was fixed
before
so I thought you would have it fixed in no time. But it is still there so maybe
you just have not had this problem. Thanks again.

Hi. I dont have an absolute answer to this issue but I can give you the
variations that I have seen it and not seen it. My configuration is 2 x FAT32
partitions of size 4gb and 620gb (ish) respectively on a 640gb 2.5 inch drive.
I got the error when selecting a game to play
Receive "Disc_SetUSB failed" message
Wiiflow 2.1 R92 with CIOS249 Rev20
Dont recieve Receive "Disc_SetUSB failed" message
Wiiflow 2.1 R117 with CIOS249 Rev20
Wiiflow 2.2 Alpha with CIOS249 Rev19
I'm afraid I demonstrated bad troubleshooting techniques and changed two things
at once, namely upgrading from Wiiflow 2.1 R92 to Wiiflow 2.2 Alpha and rolling
back CIOS249 from Rev20 to rev19 (on advice).
The fact I havent seen it on Wiiflow 2.1 R117 with CIOS249 R20 suggests running
R92 with a too newer CIOS249 was the problem.

Need Help....I have 2 kids and therefore 2 Wiis. I have softmodded both of
them using PimpMyWii and both are current and up to date. Boy Wii no longer
reads discs, girl Wii is perfect. Since Boy Wii can't read discs anymore I
started this whole project with the expectation of putting all his games on a
HDD and bypassing the no read problem. Installed current WiiFlow on both Wiis
with no problems. Download a test game on Girl Wii and in functions perfectly
from the HDD. I take the HDD to Boy Wii and get "unable to read disc
error....." What the hell. Both Wiis are configured the same...one works and
one won't. PLEASE HELP....

For the people that are getting the usb disc_SetUSB failed error - you need to
mark your partition as "active" and it will work.

1. in the next release you wont need to have partitions active and primary.
2. a cios 18+ is always required to read and launch on fat32.

I have wiiflow 2.2 r304 and using CIOS249 Rev20 with a FAT32 single partition
(active) hdd. I was getting the "disc_setusb failed" error. After i deleted the
/apps/wiiflow/wiiflow.ini, it started loading games. but then i would change my
theme or other global setting (i.e. rumble) and then try to load a game and it
would fail again with the same error. My only idea is that there is a bug
writing the wiiflow.ini settings file... any ideas???

As my earlier post in October shows I've been battling this issue for some
time. I still don't have an absolute solution. Part of the problem is that the
issue doesnt seem to arise immediately, which makes troubleshooting difficult.
I have an external 640Gb 2.5 inch drive with a 4Gb and 630Gb partitions. Both
are FAT32 partitions created with EASUS Partition Manager. I have steadily
upgraded WiiFlow and I am currently on 2.2 RC1 (301)
The best advise I can comtribute is that it seems the most stable with CIOS249
v19 base 38. I have tried v20 (38 and 57) several times and each time the
problem returns. There is now a v21 release but frankly I'm relunctant to
upgrade beyond v19. Unfortunately the likes of C.O.D. Black Ops seems to
require v20 but stability has to come first.

Using r304 and cIOS 249v20. I encountered this problem after adding several
themes to my Wiiflow setup. It seems some themes are unstable and contribute
to or cause the occurrence of this issue. I had problems with Orchid running
some games and not others. I changed back to WhiteWii and the problems were
resolved.
