Fixing tool startup #160

Hey Norbert - In the most recent "fix" for OSX, we broke the tool interface for Linux. For all systems, really. This pull request should fix that once and for all, and it will also fix some tool output in cases where there are no offset or local variables being used in an adios_write() call.
