Amatic is incorrectly displaying the question mark in the bold version #93

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Choose Amatic font
2. Type a question mark in the "Preview Text" input
3. Select "See all styles"

You're supposed to see a question mark in the bold version, instead I see a (R)
registered symbol.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Chrome 15.0.874.106 on OS X 10.7
but is the same in Safari.

Please provide any additional information below.
Amatic font is not locally installed.

Not just in the preview, also when using the font in a webpage

It's a problem in the actual font file. The bold face doesn't have a question
mark, but to (R) symbols.

Hi!
I have the same problem, really in love with this font, but desperately need

Hi again Guys, Any news about this yet??
I really like the font and wouldn't like to have to find another for the
website I'm working on.

Also, this is secondary but I thought you'd want to know, Amatic doesn't print
from firefox.

I am experiencing the same issue as reported above. Both the question mark and
the upside-down question mark are mapped to the reserved symbol. Do you accept
patches? If so, I can probably add these glyphs to the font.

It's a problem in the actual font file. The typography in Bold or regular
doesn't have a euro mark. I addore Amatic but i need this symbol!!

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Would love to see this fixed too.

A very ugly workaround: use jquery to wrap a span round all question marks,
then apply the regular version of Amatic via css.

See http://www.chameleoncopywriting.com/index.php/en/services

But really, we shouldn't have to...

Is this likely to be fixed any time soon? It has been over a year since it was
first reported and seems like it should involve just a quick fix to the font
file.

No seriously...I don't know if Google is paying attention, but one way to
get-around is change the question mark to regular/non-bold, and if that's too
wimpy then try adding a 1px shadow. :)

Just keeping this issue on the radar. Any further news on when we can expect a
fix for this font's question mark bug - makes the font pretty unusable at the
moment?

Same problem here- I use it on my blog and had to change to the non-bold
version (which is hard to see in Safari) because of the question mark issue.
Please fix!

Re: #39 (Label: ask-designer)
This issue has been fixed by the font author, but has not been merged into
google fonts. You can find the updated font file on the competing service
font-squirrel.

urgh. Yes, the issue with Amatic was originally fixed over 6 months ago &
shipped to google x3. No idea why they have failed to update it again & again.
It's a pain :-(

For those of you stumbling upon this post look for "Amatic" and NOT "Amatic
SC", "Amatic SC" has issues, "Amatic" appears to be OK.
