CO2 Signal API Key Required #256

Open bryonbaker opened 1 year ago

bryonbaker commented 1 year ago

The CO2 Signal data comes from Electricity Maps and is using a free key that I acquired. The key is very limited and we need a paid-for key to get data at scale. Or at the least we need OS Climate to get a free key so it is not using my key.

How do we go about getting an API key owned by OS Climate, and do we want to pay for a full-access key?

Bryon, thanks for filing this issue. Heather and I will see what we can do about getting a key.

Assigning to LF (Ryan Aslett). @ryanaslett, please see - https://jira.linuxfoundation.org/plugins/servlet/desk/portal/2/IT-25131

@ryanaslett - do we have an update on this yet? There are two things we need:

  1. OS Climate to own the key
  2. A paid-for key because we can only get about five zones out of 120+ zones in the free offering.

Adding Eric in case Ryan doesn't have bandwidth

IT-25131 was closed as complete back on Feb 6. It doesn't look like there has been any followup, possibly due to confusion over the fact that the LF issue was resolved. But it appears we still need a paid-for key. We'll need to know what the budget is and where funding is coming from, as it appears that all regional data subscriptions are 500€/month.

@MightyNerdEric can you plz confirm that LF/OS-C now owns the free key? @bryonbaker - OS-C has limited budget this year. can you plz let me know what use case is blocked/not working given the limited number of zones? is the full data subscription something Red Hat could potentially fund?
