Choice of language/framework #2

Open lcabrini opened 7 years ago

We need to decide on what languages/framework or maybe even CMS to use here. I'm personally biased towards python/django or even python/flask, but since I can use a host of different languages, I will not be a part of the decision process.

However, some goals I think are important.

That is my personal wish list. But, @laudb is leader of this project. His word is final, in case of any dispute

With all this said I thing Drupal can help us achieve this especially starting from the fact that it is a community based site. so far as I know redhat, and some other opensource community projects have their community site based on drupal. We can start with the base distribution called Drupal Commons. there are other distributions there towards community based sites like Open Social, OpenLucius Then modify it completely from presentation to functionality most of which come out of the box and yes it is based on PHP

I've done quite a bit of drupal work in the past. Got really annoyed at some point, but it seems like Drupal 8 might have fixed a lot, being built on top of Symfony Components (which I do like).

My small issue is knowing how to track Drupal in git, seeing that it is a CMS and not a framework. I don't mean we should track all the content, but at least the site structure. I will admit I am fairly ignorant here, being more of a python/django person. Some symfony and laravel as well, and those are PHP frameworks.

If drupal will be something that is learnable easily for beginners, then I suggest we should that framework. My suggestion though. Thanks

Very much nice learning curve for beginners. I got video tutorials on it from basics to advanced. Ready to share with anyone interested
