Significantly performance slow down with timthumbs and external urls - 30sec page loads #174

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. 30 sec+ page loads
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
3-5 page load

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
newest version just downloaded on Saturday

Please provide any additional information below.
Running lypha shared hosting; contacted hosting company and they stated that
server load was actually below avg. and load times for other sites were running
fine

I just want to see if this significantly long load time would be considered
normal or not. I am pulling about may 10-15 photos on average from an external
url. It would take about 30 secs before the page renders. Now I would
understand the load on the first view would be quite considerable but the
subsequent views takes just as long...even with cache enabled. Also, the
quantity of photos doesn't seem change the performance...1 photo is about the
same speed as 18 photos

you can see the page in question here:
www.newhoustonproperties.com/townhomes/galleria-townhomes

Result with supercache plugin off:

Result with supercache plugin on:
http://www.webpagetest.org/result/110314_BS_5DD2/

anywhere from 19-30 secs with supercache plugin disabled... about 13-14 secs
with plugin enabled..

the weird thing is that even though cache is enabled in timthumbs, it doesn't
seem to decrease load time... time with cache and no cache is exactly the
same...

Questions:

1. can timthumbs be loaded after the page loads?

2. How can i test that timthumbs is loading from cache?

3. can anyone test this it on their server?

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

This is far from normal, however I can't see the issue in question since the
page no longer seems to exist. Without some way of duplicating the problem I am
not sure how to continue/ work on the problem.
