OsmAnd uses maps from the OpenStreetMap Foundation. For territorial disputes, the OpenStreetMap Foundation policy is to "operates under the 'on the ground' principle, recording what is actually currently used in a particular area".
I feel that OsmAnd should not fork OpenStreetMap to display the map mandated by the Indian authorities. If a fork is required to comply with Indian laws and regulations, the fork should be an optional setting disabled by default for users outside of India.
See, the thing is openstreetmap.org acknowledge that there is a dispute between India, Pakistan and China for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as evident from the screenshot below: But the same cannot be said about OSMAnd~
This is an issue for people like me involved in OSM advocacy. "Publishing" a map of India which does not include these areas is illegal.
Can't OsmAnd figure out (ideally without involving any network services) what region it is being viewed in, and display different boundaries accordingly?
Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are part of India.
