🚀 feature request

TRANSMIT BUTTON

Description

OSMAND IS CURRENTLY ABLE TO SEND LOCATIONS VIA SMS, QR CODE, ETC....CREATING A FEATURE IN THE "SHARE LOCATION" OPTIONS OR CREATE A BUTTON TO "START TRANSMIT" INFORMATION OR DATA VIA VHF/UHF RADIO USING "LINE OF SIGHT" BETWEEN TWO OR MORE RADIOS ON THE SAME FREQUECY BY CONNECTING THE TWO DEVICES (TRANSIEVER RADIO AND A PHONE/TABLET) USING A USB TO KENWOOD RADIO CONNECTOR CABLE.

Describe the solution you'd like

I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO USE AN ANDROID/IPHONE OR TABLET CONNECTED TO A VHF/UHF RADIO, OPEN OSMAND AND USE OSMAND OFFLINE TO TRANSMIT OR SHARE MY LOCATION TO ANYONE ELSE ON THE SAME FREQUNCIES. ESENTIALLY MESHING THE IDEA OF A NAVIGATION APP AND BEING ABLE TO SEND AND RECIVE LIVE LOCATIONS AND TEXT USING VHF/UHF RADIO FREQUENCIES FOR OFFLINE COMMUNICATIONS. BASICALLY CAN WE COMBINE THE IDEA OF APRS PACKET RADIO AND OSMAND?

If you have a solution in mind, please describe it. ### Describe alternatives you've considered APRS DROID IS AN ALTERNATIVE CURRENTLY OUT TO SEND AND RECIEVE DATA PACKETS VIA VHF/UHF RADIO BUT YOU CANNOT UTYLIZE THE APP FOR NAVIGATION, PLOTTING A TRACK/COURSE AND SHARING THAT DATA, ETC LIKE YOU CURRENTLY CAN WITH OSMAND. APRS DROID ALLOWS THE USER TO BEACON THEMSELVES, SEND AND RECIEVE TEXT BUT IS NOT A NAVIGATION TOOL. Have you considered any alternative solutions or workarounds? I HAVE DISCOVERED A SYSTEM CALLED MESHTASTIC WHICH IS ALSO AN OPEN SOURCE SYSTEM BUT THATS AN ENTIRELY SEPERATE SYSTEM THAT WONT COMBINE WITH OSMAND.

Please don't use capital letters again on your life, you exceeded the limit.

It sounds to me like the communivation means you can use to share data should be separate standalone apps and OsmAnd should just (and does alewady!) use their respective "Share via" interface, just like OsmAnd would not provide its own in-app eMail, NFC, translation, WiFi hotspot etc. functionality.

Have you researched if there are apps out there which can be used, and which simply allow the sharing of data over means you propose?

Hardy, Yes, ATAK does what I proposed but at the time when I first proposed this idea it was only available on the ATAK app but on a government issued version. Since then ATAK has come out with a civilian version and even more recently come out with a plugin that allows GPS positions to be sent to other devices over Radio communications. I really like OSMANDs interface and layout vs. ATAK. I feel theres too much going on using the ATAK app. Also I understand that OsmAnd can share location using the already provided feature in the app but that is all based on if you have any sort of internet connection. I was proposing that data be sent off line using radio UHF/VHF. For instance there is an app called ANDFLMSG that allows the app to send text and data(photos) using the NBEMS system. You basically connect a radio to an android device using an audio cable. Its awesome! Now is there a way to create a plugin inside OsmAnd to be able to do the same? Thank you for taking the time to read this, Alex

Alex, what I am suggesting is you need to find an dedicated app which masters this technology and allows that in OsmAnd you simply use our existing "Share" interface, select the dedicated app, and that app would then accept the position data and forward it.

That clearly is the way to go. Hoping that OsmAnd developers would master, implemen, t and maintain such a specialized technology seems like a dead end to me...

Cool, thanks!

Meshtastic has come a long way, has anyone worked on a plug in to display the nodes on Osmand yet. Sharing location off grid between multiple vehicles is exactly the same path as offline maps. We use something very similar in off road side by side rides. Polaris is the only company out there, they call it Ride Command Vehicle to Vehicle mapping. You can see the position of all the vehicles in a group and see if they are moving and what trail they are on. Using Meshtastic everyone could use this safety device and not spend their day trying to find the missing vehicles of the group. So how do you build a plug in?
