Description

I would like to donate to the project without involving google. Liberapay is a donation platform that does not require users to go through google.

Describe alternatives you've considered

I have considered crypo but it fluctuates in value and requires me to setup a wallet.

Before discovering the suggestion made in this issue, I came across another similar one also dealing with the topic of donations: #3227

I am using a mobile phone with a Custom ROM with neither of the app stores listed in the OsmAnd FAQ. So this means no Google Play, Amazon App Store or Huawei AppGallery. I only use open source apps obtained via F-Droid, GitHub, etc.

Theoretically, a relatively anonymous "donation" possibility would be the following:

Even though this would go into the right direction of anonymity, it has the following big disadvantage: A relative large share of my intended donation would actually directly go into the pockets of Google or Amazon.

But I actually want to support you, the developers of OsmAnd and not the big companies!

I would very much appreciate the support of credit card payment or bank wire transfer (i.e. SWIFT with IBAN) as donation method for OsmAnd. Using those companies as payment providers means that a much smaller share would go into the pockets of the wrong party.

The suggested liberapay.com service also claims a much smaller rake-off in their FAQ.

Do you think such a donation possibility is realistically possible in the near future ("easy" to implement) or is there already any progress on this?

As a user of OsmAnd~ and LineageOS (without Google services), I donated to the OSMF instead. Seems like a viable workaround to me.

Actually would be nice to be able to use the cloud backup functionality without having to subscribe to proprietary third parties.

I also had email with the OsmAnd support, and it seems to me they don't want money from me if I don't have and use proprietary third party app stores.
