Android Auto Opening Screen #18396

Describe the idea (required)

Hi, Great app, but two ideas and or annoyances with current Osmand Android Auto implementation. 1) The open screen has a menu, with options, on the left side that takes up half the screen (see attached photo). One must select 'free ride' to make the menu go away. How about either not having that menu as a default, or at least make it go away by itself in a couple of seconds. 2) Can the Android Auto opening map zoom be linked to what ever the phone was last at? Or have a default Android Auto zoom that one can select? Or, let me know how that Android Auto zoom is linked to the phone. Right now, it appears that Osmand picks a zoom level at random when it opens in Android Auto. Most of the time it is so far zoomed in that I only see about 20 ft around me, or so far zoomed out that it is showing half the state.

Tell us about the expected behaviour (required)

1) I do not know what even to try for the menu issue.

2) I have tried various zoom levels on the phone before opening it in Android Auto with no results.

Tell us about alternatives you've considered (required)

No, I don't know what they might be.

Context (optional)

No response

I second this. Start menu should be minimized by default or a few seconds after map is displayed.

Have not noticed random zoom issues but there's also some kind of layer blending bug in Android Auto: current location icon (when app is not open on the phone) and road labels (when overlay/underlay is on) are too transparent and hard to see.

TODO : 2. Is doable and we need to do it.

  1. Need to be check with guidelines and other apps.

I also second this.

Regarding 1) and the behavior of other apps: If there was not previous route active when being opened in AA google-maps shows a screen that displays the moving map and (in addition to the usual map-actions) a huge button labeled 'search'. When you click this search-action it opens a (nearly full-screen) search dialog with all available search options (free-text-search or recent destinations, other choices are categories, saved locations).

In OsmAnd I'd like so see similar behavior: When not navigating there should be a single search-action that opens an integrated full-screen search-dialog for everything (free-text-search, recent destinations, categories, favorites, markers). Currently having both a search-button + the place-list + the option to switch to 'free driving' is a bit cumbersome. Having a single search-option and dialog is certainly most easy to understand for a first-time user.
