Translation of Help Pages #3551

Open CarstenG opened 7 years ago

CarstenG commented 7 years ago

Hi, at the moment the Help Pages inside of OsmAnd are only available in English language. Only the topics of the chapters are translated (german in my case), but not the content.

It would be great, if you can make all the help pages available for translation at weblate.org like the app itself.

Thanks!

It could be quite impactful for other translators. The content of the help is located here https://github.com/osmandapp/osmandapp.github.io/tree/master/website/help

Thanks for the link. But I mean the help content which is available inside the OsmAnd App. This is also here: https://osmand.net/features So what can we do to get this content to the weblate.org project for translation?

vshcherb commented 5 years ago

We just about to finish translation to 2 languages: DE, RU. After that we will know how to manage it. Still "help" section needs refactoring and cleaning.

Ok, thanks for the update. If you need an additional opinion (I'm native German speaker), call me. :)

German is here for features https://github.com/osmandapp/osmandapp.github.io/tree/master/website/feature_articles/de. We're about to restructure Help + Technical Articles and then they will be ready for translation

@vshcherb Weblate 4.1 has support for HTML https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/formats.html?highlight=html#html-files https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/formats.html?highlight=html#translation-types-capabilities so they can be added for translation on Hosted. Should help consistency having translators see these. Can I make changes to the source files and leave them as PRs? One for all or per file?

vshcherb commented 4 years ago

that's cool, well we will need to integrate first.

Here a collaborator in Spanish translation of the application since 2014/2015.

Sure it will be hard work to add all the strings in Weblate, but if it is decided to add the help page in Weblate, I would be willing to work on the translation for my language.

Many Spanish speaking people are very lost with the application settings and do not know how to read English. It would be great if all the help would be in their native language.

We've done around ~25-30% of documentation hoping to reach 80-90% https://docs.osmand.net/docs/intro/ this year. Though it looks like translation will be quite insane process, we don't have a mechanism to mark some parts obsolete in translation.

Though today is possible to start translation of complete articles already. The biggest issue docs are not yet bundled in the app as offline package
