IBGE layers are borked #1082

Open naoliv opened 3 years ago

naoliv commented 3 years ago

IBGE Mapa de Setores Urbanos and IBGE Mapa de Setores Rurais are borked, due to https://blog.mapbox.com/deprecating-studio-classic-styles-d8892ac38cb4

While trying to use any of these layers it's possible to see:

Classic styles are no longer supported; see https://blog.mapbox.com/deprecating-studio-classic-styles-d8892ac38cb4 for more information

Hi @naoliv, thanks for flagging. I'm wondering if this layer is useful at all after the work you have done with the shapefiles. Should we deprecate them?

tarcisiooliveira commented 3 years ago

It's not deprecated, i use there. Thanks @naoliv

The Cartas Topográficas do Exército Brasileiro layer is very similar to IBGE Mapa de Setores Rurais.

But IBGE Nomes de Ruas and IBGE Mapa de Setores Urbanos aren't 1:1 equivalent; some data is available only in IBGE Mapa de Setores Urbanos.

Just to summarize the current situation:

IBGE Mapa de Setores Urbanos and IBGE Mapa de Setores Rurais are borked, due to https://blog.mapbox.com/deprecating-studio-classic-styles-d8892ac38cb4

Both of these sources point to the mapbox account tmpsantos, which I assume is managed by @tmpsantos Will these sources be restored or should they be removed from ELI?

rbuffat commented 3 years ago

FYI, there seems to be quite a lot of broken IBGE sources in ELI at the moment: https://rbuffat.github.io/eli_watchdog/ -> south-america -> south-america / br

tmpsantos commented 3 years ago

Will these sources be restored or should they be removed from ELI?

Let's remove them, they won't be restored.

eduardoaddad commented 3 years ago

Could restore these layers, it is very useful for an OpenStreetMap Brasilieira community ?

tmpsantos commented 3 years ago

@eduardoaddad I know :-(

But another thing we could do is regenerate a better map now that the vector data that this raster map is based at is now available. @naoliv is this something you can help?

naoliv commented 3 years ago

Unfortunately I am overwhelmed with life lately. I even intended to create more layers with other data from IBGE. But it won't be possible for now.

tmpsantos commented 3 years ago

@naoliv can you drop some pointers about what would be the source data to recreate this layer using vector data? I heard you have done some prior art in this direction. This would be extremely helpful for anyone wanting to move this forward.
