Add more error cases to tests

Right now there are a few unhandled error cases on the back-end, where we return a 500 instead of a more appropriate error.

• All test cases should have tests for known error conditions (eg. comments)
• Do some fuzz-testing of the API to ensure that a 500 is never returned.
