Are there decent 8-bit parallel DACs that we could put on the board?

Maybe the MAX5184? 40 MHz, 10 bit.

Can that be powered off the Beaglebone's 3V3 line?

I think we can power it from the Beaglebone -- both the analog and digital voltage supply want 3.3V and less than 10mA together. The output voltage on the i386 video appears to be 0-1V, so the MAX5184's 1.2V reference seems reasonable.

5-bit r2r dac

Alternatively, the 5-bit r2r DAC on the green channel seems to produce reasonable results and doesn't interfere with the boot mode.
