Original report (archived issue) by Chris Fotache (Bitbucket: chrisfotache).

When will the cave circuit be available?

And do you have any dates set already? (like qualification deadline, competition interval(

I was curious about that too. I found some cave models in this repo, dated 2019-02:

I was able to find one world in the simple_cave branch… What can I say, amazing visuals!

@Chris How did you run it in SubT Simulator?

Paul - I downloaded the cave files and new IGN launch file, copied them into my Testbed simulation, and ran it like that… surprisingly, it worked from the first attempt.

Chris - I was looking for cave*.ign launch file and I don’t see it there.

Paul - It’s here: https://github.com/osrf/subt/blob/master/subt_ign/launch/

Updated Feb 21 so maybe it’s a valid file for the upcoming circuit.

Chris - I see it now. Have you removed urban_qual branch and installed simple_cave_01 branch in its place with no problems?

Original comment by Chris Fotache (Bitbucket: chrisfotache).

Paul - I didnt update the entire branch since I’m not sure if all the code is stable. I run the simulation testbed as a docker container, and I just copied those files into the container.

Chris - Thanks. I copied the cave_circuit.ign and simple_cave_01.* to existing catkin build. It seems to be mostly working.

Yesterday, rather by accident, I came across https://community.subtchallenge.com/t/cost-of-modified-robot-configuration/1255/3 (Cost of modified robots) where I learned:

“““We are not expecting to provide a sensor configuration submission window for Cave Circuit. The focus of feature additions to the SubT Virtual Testbed are expected to be new robot models. Teams are welcome and encouraged to submit robot models through the Virtual Model RFI which closes March 31.”””?!

Martin - Yes, I asked that question wanting to add or reposition cameras on existing robots. I don’t have enough time or experience to submit a completely new robot. I had a note about March 31st deadline and wanted to confirm.

Simple Cave Worlds have been released. Cave Circuit dates will be announced via the SubT Challenge Community Forum and emails to registered teams.
