In this issue lets brainstorm ideas on a different way we could visualize issue over time data
Problems with current view:
If there is a major outlier bar, it skews the Y axis to make most of the view not granular enough to get a good view
open issues line can also cause this skew
Potential solution:
change the range slider for the graph to a date selector (see affiliations page for example). Preset it to be 2 year? (can talk through the exact amount if this solution is chosen), and allow users to see larger date range through the date selector
different graph option entirely
Direct Feedback from @geekygirldawn
I wonder if there is a better way to visualize this? Most projects have so many open issues, that the created and closed issues are dwarfed by the number of open issues. I know I can get rid of the open line from the legend, but it’s useful to see open, created, and closed together. Note that I can’t actually think of a better type of visualization for this data, so maybe this is the best way to do it, but it would be great to think about other options. It does look like the month slider takes up quite a bit of vertical space - maybe if we removed that and let people select the months on the graph by selecting the focus area instead of having a slider?
