Dashboard needs more prominent link to 'post new story' #368

What archive revision are you testing on? (See the revision number next to "An Archive Of Our Own: Extreme Alpha (rev. #)" in the header).

(This was also brought up in feedback from another user.) What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Log in

  1. Want to post a story
  2. Look for 'post new' or 'post a story', etc link What is the expected output? What do you see instead? The link should be VERY prominent and easy to find. However, it's only located in the top right of the screen above the search box, next to 'log out'.

People will want to post stories, that's the whole purpose of the archive - to share fic. Therefore, the 'post new' link should be very easy to locate (almost a 'no brainer' operation). Please provide any additional information below. Either move the 'post new' link to be situated on the line next to 'profile | bookmaks | subscrib' and remove from the top right, or have it in both places.

suggest instead adding more post new links like so:

==USER HOME==

end

on users/_header.html.erb

also suggest

in series/_series_blurb to show on the series listing

if is_author_of series

    • <%= link_to "Edit".t, edit_series_path(@series) %>
    • <%= link_to "Reorder series".t, manage_series_path(@series) %>

    • end

    and on works/_works_blurb.html.erb to show on works listing if is_author_of?(@work)

    end

    so that basic story controls show up wherever the user can control a story--and to match up with bookmark functionality

    Have taken the liberty of trying to do some mock-ups! Lim, maybe you could take a quick look at some point and confirm if this is the kind of thing you meant?

    The mock-ups show a new link on the user dashboard page (if it's your own dashboard), the series listing page (if you are the author) and the work show page (if you're the author of the work).

    It was additionally suggested that there be a kind of welcome page for users signing in for the first time after creating an account which could highlight where to find the 'post new' link, but this should be a separate issue.
