1422 1829 1702 (https://youtu.be/dT6BbhtePhI) is a performative video that explores the memories associated with physical locations from my past, present and future. More specifically, I am utilizing feet (both figuratively and literally) as a unit of measurement to navigate through my grandmother's, my mother's, and then my own home. Every carpet, rug, wood panel, tile and floor covering is meticulously measured, as I pace each inch with my feet. As I walked these homes, the floor plans become permanently ingrained in my memory, inch by inch, solidifying the connection between my family and I, no matter the distance. Each home segment can be seen as a parallel world to where I currently am; and reminds me that my past and present will always be a part of me heading into the future.
Participants in the revamped participatory iteration of this project will use their feet (or wheelchair) and their connection to their current physical space to create a sense of union among participants, no matter their location or physical separation. This project will be held via video conferencing, where for the 30 minutes, individuals from the community (or communities) are invited to participate by "measuring" their current physical location with their feet using their cell phones. Activity level will require walking for a longer duration, as participants pace over various floor coverings around their homes. Participants who are wheelchair bound can film from above, showing their feet passing over the flooring. Through video conferencing, this live stream of simultaneous action will create a grid of movement, and a gesture of unity.

Objective
For the participatory project I am proposing, I would like to take the idea from my project 1422 1829 1702 of using our feet and their connection to our current physical spaces to create a sense of union among people, no matter their location or physical separation. This project would be held over Zoom, where for the 30 minutes, we would invite individuals from the community (or communities) to participate by "measuring" their current physical location with their feet using their cell phones. Through Zoom, this live stream of everyone doing this action simultaneously would create a grid of our actions, and a gesture of unity.
Material and Technical Requirements
Platform: Video conferencing platform
Technical considerations: ideally 30 participants, but could be unlimited
Additional considerations: participants must have internet access, the zoom app and a smart phone
No additional purchases required, just assistance advertising for participation!
