Usage of Crossref's "free_to_read" tag #39

Hello again,

after some more discussions with the people from Thieme it looks like they report "free availability" to Crossref by setting the "free_to_read" tag. Unfortunately, this element isn't part of their JSON format, but of the more comprehensive UNIXREF format, see see https://api.crossref.org/works/10.1055/s-0036-1588536/transform/application/vnd.crossref.unixsd+xml

[...]
<ai:free_to_read start_date="2017-08-28" />
[...]

It looks like the information is currently not exploited by oaDOI, see http://api.oadoi.org/10.1055/s-0036-1588536. Any chance to use the tag as indicator to detect free available content?

Thanks, inga

thanks for the example! We knew this field was going to start being used, but hadn't seen it in the wild yet. Yup, we'll see how much it would improve our coverage and prioritize accordingly. Good to know this is how Thieme does it, that's helpful. Thanks :)
