It's a single-player mode in which the player explores the levels looking for three Master Emerald shards (or any other objects) . The radar is in Sonic Adventure 1 mode, meaning all three shards can be detected at any given time.
Emerald shards are usually found inside alcoves that house secret monitors or would normally contain Giant Rings, but also inside enemies or item boxes.
Unlike what is usual for this mode (or MainMemory's hack), all three player characters can participate and not only Knuckles. Depending on the character, subtle alterations in gameplay occur:
Knuckles: the radar is at its most sensitive. Only when playing as Knuckles, Emerald shards are more likely to be found inside enemies.
Sonic: the radar’s sensitivity is slightly lower. Only when playing as Sonic, Emerald shards are more likely be found inside item boxes.
Tails: the radar’s sensitivity is at its lowest. Only when playing as Tails, Emerald shards can often be found simply hanging in the open, clearly visible.
Losing a life makes the player forfeit the challenge.
