Referral Ranks is receiving a massive update in its upcoming version. Before we talk about anything else, let’s look at the new features:
- Ability to reset leaderboards
- We added the !reset-leaderboard command, which allows server admins to reset all invite counts to zero
- Totally cheat-proof referral scores and leaderboards
- Know who invited whom to your server with 100% certainty (upcoming)
- Customized invite links (upcoming)
During the past months, the Referral Ranks dev team has been working very hard to improve the bot. Our most pressing concern was finding a way to prevent users from artificially inflating their rank by having their friends repeatedly join and leave the server or other such methods. Due to limitations in the Discord API, this was very hard to accomplish.
After a lot of head scratching (and a number of failed approaches), we found a way to not only guarantee our bot is cheat-proof, but also to give you the ability to know for certain who was the first person to invite a particular user to your server. This allows for things like customized greeting messages congratulating your members for inviting their friend to your server!
Our bot creates personalized invite links for every member of your guild. When a new member joins your server via one of these links, Referral Ranks can know who invited them. The bot will also detect when a user joins, leaves and then joins again via the same link (or a different one), thus preventing artificially inflated ranks and similar shenanigans.
This opens up the possibility for a number of cool new features in the future, like customizable invite links that show different information about your guild than the typical Discord invite link.
IMPORTANT NOTE: you must instruct your users to use these personalized links. Any people who join your server by using a default Discord invite link will not be tracked or counted by the bot. A user will be able to ask the bot for his link by using the !link command at any time.
Aside from that, you will now be able to reset the invite leaderboard with a new command. This feature was long overdue, but we listened to the community and here it is!
If you are already using Referral Ranks in your Discord server and want to upgrade to the new version, all you have to do is use the !upgrade command and the bot will walk you through the (very short) upgrading process. You will be able to preserve your current ranks (and even your current invite scores if you want).
If by any chance you do not like the new version, you can always go back to the original Referral Ranks using the !downgrade command (though we cannot think of a reason why anyone in their right mind would want to).
This is the first of many upcoming updates and features that will hopefully make Referral Ranks your go-to bot for server invite tracking.

How does this look? I'm thinking we should not put "customized invite links" as a feature since it's not ready yet, but I wasn't sure when we were releasing this
